In April
of 2007, the bowling team at Vanderbilt won the University's
first-ever team NCAA national Championship. It was the team's
third year in existence. The team compiled an NCAA best record
of 74-14, which was an 18-game win increase from the previous
season. The team was the first collegiate bowling team to
visit the White House and to meet the President in June 2007.
Coach
John Williamson was named bowling's "National Coach of
the Year." His team had a rare perfect 300 game in the
NCAA Championship and his line-up consisted of four sophomores
and a freshman. All ten members of the team made the SEC Academic
Honor Roll with a team composite grade point average of 3.39.
Josie Earnest, a freshman, was named the NCAA tournament MVP.
Other team members were named second, third and honorable
mention All-Americans.
Looking
ahead, Vanderbilt has signed the #1 high school bowler in
the country to a national letter of intent.
